ATTENDANCE, DISCIPLINE & SANCTIONS

ATTENDANCE

Pupils are required to attend school and lessons punctually.  They may not leave school
during the day unless:

a.        They have sought permission from their subject teacher and the Head, Deputy
Head or Pastoral Staff.

b.        They have signed out in the appropriate book in the secretary's office.

They should also sign in again when they return.  Pupils attending the MRS or the Dental
Unit should show the secretary their appointment cards when signing out.

Pupils who are absent from school should, on returning, bring a note from their parents
explaining why they have been away or telephone the School.  Notes are also required
for pupils to be excused PE, or if their parents need them to leave school during the day.
You can write notes in the RoA notebook/diary.  If you expect your child to be absent for
longer than 3 consecutive days please inform the school in advance.

Pupils are not permitted to smoke in school time, nor must they bring smoking materials
to school with them.

In a small school like KRS we do not need a long list of rules, except in specialist areas
like the library, labs, workshops and the sports field, where the staff in charge will set out
the rules and procedures which must be followed.    For the most part, however, we hope
that relations amongst pupils and between pupils and staff are governed by mutual
respect and courtesy.  Behaviour which does not meet these requirements will be met by
appropriate sanctions.

Problems relating to work within the classroom should be referred initially to the Head of
Curriculum Area and, if necessary, by her or him to the Deputy Headteacher or
Headteacher.  Other problems of a more social nature should be referred to the tutor
who will pass on the matter, where appropriate, to a senior member of staff.

Various sanctions are available to the staff who are faced with misconduct or
non-completion of work: lines, additional work, supervised break time detentions, formal
detention etc.

The Headteacher has authority to exclude a pupil when he considers that the continued
presence of the pupil in the school constitutes a grave threat to good order and discipline
or to the moral welfare of the other pupils.  The parent would always be informed
immediately in writing if such action were taken.  The case would always be considered
by the Competent Authority, to whom the exclusion is to be immediately reported (JSP
302 para 0406).

CURRENT INFORMATION REPORTS

From time to time a profile of a pupil's current behaviour and attainment is required for
pastoral or disciplinary purposes.  The procedure of compiling such a profile can be
initiated by the Headteacher, his Deputy or the pastoral management team at the request
of any member of staff.

SPECIAL REPORT FORMS

Pupils who attract persistent detention or other unfavourable comment from staff may be
put on SPECIAL REPORT for periods of a week at a time.  They will present the card to
each teacher for signature at the end of every lesson.  Teachers will sign the appropriate
box and indicate whether or not work and conduct for the lesson were satisfactory.  The
card may require a signature daily both by the parents and School and at the end of the
week it will be checked for the whole period.  When the misconduct or lack of work
continues, parents will be asked to come to the school and discuss the matter with the
Headteacher.

AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION

There is a detention for one hour after school on Tuesdays for pupils who commit more
serious or frequent misdemeanours.  Parents will be notified that their child has been
put into this detention, why it has happened and when the detention is to take place.  A
minimum of 24 hours notice will be given.

CORPORAL PUNISHMENT

It is school policy not to use corporal punishment.
