CAREERS

Careers guidance in school is provided in a careers suite consisting of an
office/library and teaching/display area.  A full and up-to-date stock of careers
information is maintained in the library.  A careers Adviser, resident in Cyprus, will
visit us once a week, interviewing pupils and parents.  They also serve as a most
valuable link with UK employers and Institutions of Further and Higher Education.

The pattern of careers guidance throughout a pupil's school career is to be as
follows:

THE CAREERS TEACHER IN KEY STAGES 3 & 4 IS MRS JOSEPHINE SMITH

YEAR 7 – 9              All students undertake a half term module in Careers Education

YEAR 9        A talk to the whole year and their parents on general career prospects
and the implications of subject choices which pupils are due to make at the end of
the year.  Individual advice from careers officers and the careers teacher is
available on request.  Much work is done within the tutor groups before option
choices are made.

YEAR 10        Tutor periods featuring the PSHE circuit block of lessons with the
careers teacher.  There is also a short individual interview with the visiting career
officers.

YEAR 11        An intensive interview (with parents present) is offered to each pupil in
the Autumn term: this is followed up by contact with UK firms or educational
institutions to the pupil, and another interview in January.

THE CAREERS TEACHER IN KEY YEARS 12 & 13 IS MR DENIS LAWRENCE

YEARS 12 & 13        Individual advice and information is given on request when
required by the student. Group sessions eg UCAS Apply, interview techniques, CV
writing, etc are regularly held as part of the Key Stage 5 PSHE programme.

An up-to-date file of correspondence and advice is maintained on each pupil and
follows her or him to any subsequent school.

THE YOUTH SERVICE

The Cyprus Youth Service is managed by the Youth Service Officer, Mr Graham
Millard. He has a staff of youth workers who are responsible for co-ordinating and
encouraging out-of-school youth activities within each SBA.  The ESBA Youth
Organiser is Mrs Lynn Everett who can be contacted on Dhekelia 4477.
