LEARNING SUPPORT
The Policy for Learning Support is built around the central principle that it is the
shared responsibility of all teachers to ensure that all pupils have access to a broad,
balanced curriculum, delivered in a relevant and differentiated manner, enabling
progression and continuity to be experienced. Good practice for pupils with Special
Needs is good practice for all.
AIMS
1. To ensure the school's practice fully complies with the revised Special Needs
Code of Practice – 2002.
2. To work with staff, pupils, parents and outside agencies to help pupils achieve
their potential by removing barriers to learning.
3. To help promote pupil confidence and enhance self esteem through
successful learning in a caring atmosphere.
4. To create and support a partnership with parents in order that they, understand
their child’s difficulties and help them to achieve their potential.
5. To maintain and develop links with primary and other secondary schools to
ensure the efficient transfer of pupils and appropriate sharing of information.
6. To ease transition between the Key Stages.
7. To develop staff skills and expertise in meeting the needs of pupils on the
Special Needs Register.
8. To help pupils prepare for adult life.
9. To create a safe and caring environment where pupils feel valued
